The tenement building shows how housing developments shifted from the times of early immigrants until today. It is when buildings have been renovated to serve multi purposes. It was first noticed in the 1850s and even become more popular in the latter years. This was the time when housing standards and policies were not yet fully established in the United States of America. The occurrence of these buildings was a product of landlord's efforts to maximize potential gains by accommodating optimum number of people in a certain space.
