The Allure of Miniature Museums

You can find a miniature museum in just about any major town across the country. If not in major towns, you are almost guaranteed to find one in your particular state. The miniature hobby has seen a resurgence in the last few years and the traffic that miniature museums have experienced can prove that. People are amazed at the craftsmanship and detail that experienced miniaturists can include in such a little house, figurine or other miniature creation.

Lincoln’s Miniatures Collections - University of Nebraska

Much of this collection was donated posthumously by the estate of Eloise Kruger. She was a fervent collector of miniatures since the early 1930s and her collection was quite impressive. Its main focus was on miniature historical pieces, but it also included other pieces of interest. In all, there are over 20,000 miniature pieces in the collection. Currently, this collection is used to teach interior design about different historical periods and the d‚cor that was characteristic of various times.

The Thorn Rooms - The Art Institute of Chicago

With almost 70 rooms of miniature exhibits, this impressive display showcases time periods ranging from the 13th century all the way until the mid-20th century. It also has miniature furniture pieces from American history that exhibits the evolution and the different types of popular furniture in the nation since its earliest colonial years.

Angel’s Attic Miniature Museum - Santa Monica, California

This collection is housed within a magnificent Victorian-style home that has been restored to its original beauty. The seven galleries with various exhibits are sponsored by the Angels for Autistic Children and the proceeds go to benefit the Julia Ann Singer Center.

Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls, and Toys - Denver, Colorado

Not only does this miniature museum have an impressive display of miniatures, but it also offers educational opportunities that visitors can take advantage of. They also have several events throughout the year that promote the hobby of miniatures.
