Wallpaper can be a great way to add a finished look to one or more of the rooms in your miniature dollhouse. You can use either regular wallpaper or wallpaper that is designed specifically for small dollhouse rooms. Here are some tips to remember when applying wallpaper to a room in your miniature dollhouse.
- Do not use pre-pasted wallpaper. Use wallpaper that you need to apply paste to for best results.
- Remove any all fixtures, including pictures, light switch plates and other wall hangings that will get in the way of the wallpaper.
- Cut the wallpaper to fit the room’s height. Measure carefully and cut several pieces before you begin.
- Apply wallpaper paste to the backside of the wallpaper. Use a foam brush for best results. A foam brush helps to distribute the paste evenly.
- Let it dry for a few minutes
- Apply the wallpaper to the wall by starting at the top. Smooth it out on the way down with the foam brush or a clean rag.
- Check for air bubbles before allowing it to dry for 24 hours.
- Once it is completely dry, cut out around the door, windows and other areas with an Exacto knife for the most precise and detailed cutting.
- Be sure the wallpaper is dry before trying to cut it. If you try to cut it while it is still damp, the wallpaper could peel.
- Don’t worry about spaces or small mistakes along the edges. You can use molding to cover mistakes and small spaces along the edge that the wallpaper does not cover.
- Don’t use wallpaper where the designs need to be matched up unless you plan on taking extra time to match the designs at the seams.
