Wallpaper can add color, dimension and character to your miniature room setting. In order to achieve the best and most finished look, it’s helpful to follow a few key steps.
It’s advisable to wallpaper before attaching any trim to the floor boards, doors or windows. Also, delay installing components such as staircases or fireplaces until your wallpaper is fully set and dry. Additionally, take care of all wiring and painting prior to beginning your wallpaper job.
If you will be wallpapering a wall that contains electrical wires, you can consider creating a facade or cover wall out of posterboard. The posterboard piece, cut to the exact same dimensions as the original wall, will give you a flat surface over which to apply your wallpaper. The facade wall will then be glued to the original wall with tacky glue.
Before applying wallpaper sheets, coat each dollhouse wall with wood sealer or latex paint. This coating will seal the wood and prevent bubbling or loosening of the wallpaper once it is applied. Using an X-Acto knife and craft cutting mat, cut each wallpaper sheet to the exact measurements of each wall. Be sure to cut your sheets along pattern lines that will allow you to match up your pattern for the look of clean and continuous design.
Be sure to apply ample glue, specifically dollhouse wallpaper glue, and quickly spread with a foam brush for full and even coverage. You can choose to apply the glue to the full side of either the wall or the wallpaper sheet. Apply the sheet quickly but carefully. Smooth the paper using a small straight edge or credit card. Work from one corner outward in a single direction to ensure a smooth finish.
