Your Choice: The 2 Types of Dollhouse Kits
Tab & Slot vs. Nail & Glue Models
A beginning model maker might not know which type of kit is best for their needs. The two most common types of dollhouse models available are tab & slot and nail & glue. Both have the benefits and disadvantages and oftentimes it is nothing more than a matter of preference. Following is a short explanation of some of the characteristics of each type so you can decide which kind is best for you.
Tab & Slot
* Most popular type of miniature dollhouse model because it is easier for beginners
* Ideal for quicker projects because you can simply assemble the kit without the need to let glue dry before working on another section
* Many dollhouse model kits use tab & slot so they are easy to find
* Often needs glue to secure the pieces and prevent them from coming apart
* Ideal for inexperienced model makers because it helps you learn about the best ways to put models together
Nail & Glue
* Used mostly by hobbyists and enthusiasts because they are generally more precise
* More detail-oriented
* Needs tools, including a small hammer and 1-inch nails as well as Carpenter’s Glue and Super Glue Gel for best results
* Takes more time to finish a project as you often need to wait for glue to dry before moving on to the next stage
* Instills a sense of pride in the person who creates it because of its increased level of difficulty and the knowledge used to create it
The main difference between these two methods is your preference. Neither method is really better or more ideal than the other. It’s up to you to decide which method you enjoy more to keep you interested in the model making hobby.
