Tips for Installing Wooden Flooring
Whether you’ve chosen a traditional wooden plank or parquet pattern, you want your wooden floors to be a beautiful and well constructed component to your dollhouse design. Be sure you have completed all interior painting and wallpapering in the room before installing the flooring. Wait to install staircases and all door and baseboard molding until your flooring is in place.Â
The base floor in your room should be smooth and clean. Sand the brush the area until it is properly prepared.Â
Flooring Sheets
If you are working with hardwood flooring sheets, cut the sheet to match the dimensions of the room’s floor. Use polyurethane to seal the sheet flooring. Sand the wood after the first coat, and brush it with a tack cloth until the wood floor is clean and smooth. You will need to apply one to two additional coats. Install the flooring sheet in your room and use either quick grab glue or contact cement to secure the flooring. (Wood glue is not recommended for this material.) Apply even pressure to the flooring area and monitor regularly for bubbling.Â
Flooring Strips/Planks
Cut the flooring into varying lengths. After applying wood glue to the bottom of the strip, press into place. Each piece should fit snugly against the next. After all strips are applied, sand and stain your flooring. Two to three coats of polyurethane will properly seal the wood. Sand and brush smooth between coats.Â
