*Tip*: Read all instructions before starting to build your dollhouse

It may seem like an unnecessary step, but reading through the directions before jumping in to build your dollhouse will be time well spent.  In addition to doing a parts inventory this is one of the most important steps to get yourself ready to assemble your kit.  No matter how much you want to just jump in and glue something (!), it’s important for to you have a good grasp on the big picture.  Then each individual step will make more sense as you go along.

When reading through the instruction manual that came with your dollhouse kit make sure that you understand each part in the building process. Are the instructions that you received complete? If not, don’t hesitate to contact the manufacturer and request a full set. Do all the diagrams in the instructions correspond with the parts of your dollhouse? If there is something that you do not understand write it down in a project notebook.  Depending on your question, you can consult resources on the Internet, an experienced miniaturist friend, or the manufacturer to locate the answers that you need.

Remember that no matter how excited you are to get started, you’re doing yourself a favor by taking a few minutes to read through your dollhouse kit instructions first.  Building dollhouses is about the process, not just the end result.  So give yourself every advantage and enjoy!
